Neuromuscular therapy (NMT) -

Summary: Identification and treatment of the source of pain and compensation patterns.

  • Pain from recent injury.

  • Chronic pain.

  • Injury rehab.

  • Limited range of motion.

  • Postural problems and compensation patterns.

  • Myofascial pain syndrome.

  • Fibromyalgia.

  • Post accident rehabilitation.

NMT is my choice of treatment for patients who present with chronic pain and is often hugely successful in greatly reducing or eliminating even longstanding painful conditions. Excellent results are usual seen immediately (after 1-2 sessions) , however, full correction of problems often takes several months.

Using this this approach. I have treated 1000´s of people who have failed with other therapies/practicioners. People are usually suprised by the immediate decrease in their pain levels.

Some of the techniques can also be applied to acute injuries and for post-surgical care; many help to improve performance in sport or dance and to prevent injuries due to these activities.

The aim in Neuromuscular Therapy is to look for and locate and correct the root of the problem using a program of therapy and corrective excercise. The concept of referred pain is central to the treatment proces, ie: The pain you are feeling is not necessarly due to a problem there, an extremely high level of knowledge and training

NMT treatments and examinations primarily address:

  • ischemia (tight tissue with reduced blood flow)

  • myofascial trigger points (hypersensitive points within muscles that give rise to referred phenomena, including pain). Often headaches are a result of refered pan from the upper back or neck for example, or lower back pain comes from postural and muscle imbalance pelvic and gluteal muscles. Leg of foot pain comes form sciatic nerve entrapment,

  • neural entrapment (pressure on nerves by muscles and other soft tissues), and nerve compression(pressure on nerves by osseous and other bonelike tissues, such as cartilage or  discs).

  • postural assessment (assessment of the position of the body as a whole)

  • and dysfunctional gait patterns (manner of movement when walking)

  • with constant consideration for many other perpetuating factors, such as hydration, nutrition, breathing patterns, and psychologic stress.

Patrick has studied cutting edge manual and dry needling triggerpoint techniques with the worlds leading experts and authors on manual therapies for Myofascial pain, Dr. Jan Dommerholt and Dr.Michelle Layton, Bethesda, U.S.A. As well as training in Neuromuscular Therapy with Dr. Scott Bernius, D.C. New York, U.S.A.

Here in Peru he has complented a higher postgradate diploma in manual orthopedic therapy and looking to begin his doctorate studies this year.
